The Global Youth Peace Summit is a sustainable peace movement that fosters community, compassionate response, and nonviolent communication and leadership skills in the hearts of children.
The goal of the Summit is to cultivate unity, leadership, and self-awareness in a community based in Austin, Texas. The majority of the youth who participate in this program live in the Austin area, but the village created at the Summit represents the diversity of the world...many of these youth have moved to the United States with their families as refugees of war and poverty.
The curriculum offers the youth regular opportunities for self-expression and public speaking in an open and accepting environment. Many of the youth have experienced very adult hardships in their lives, and come from challenging circumstances in developing countries and impoverished U.S. neighborhoods. The Summit offers an invitation for healing and transformation. Our experienced staff guides discussions and group activities to engage the youth, challenging them to break through their reserve and speak, reach out, and heal. Coming to the Summit is a great achievement for these children, and a profound advancement in their education.
The Global Youth Peace Summit takes place in the heart of Texas Hill Country along the Blanco River in Wimberley. In the quiet of the wilderness, the natural world is our greatest teacher. Here the youth have the space to make new connections, forge new ways of thinking about the world, and create deep and lasting friendships. For many, it is the first opportunity to spend time outside of the city neighborhoods where they are growing up. A part of the curriculum is dedicated to educating the youth on sustainability and living in harmony with the natural world, and there is plenty of time dedicated to healthy, outdoor fun.
THE ONE VILLAGE PROJECT
During the school year, the Amala Foundation invites the youth to reunite as one village in service to the Austin Community with the One Village Project. This is a valuable opportunity for the village to continue to grow strong and remain connected. These events provide the youth with opportunities to serve others and work together to promote a more peaceful and compassionate world.
The first One Village Reunion is set for Saturday, October 4th.
